I’m from dinner on the couch and clutter on the table,
From movies in the minivan and rainy soccer practices.
I’m from cheerleading at high school basketball games
And falling asleep at middle school band concerts.
I’m from “you got games on yo phone?”, action figure adventures, hours of power rangers,
And years of hand-me-downs.
I’m from open arms at family gatherings
And tables full of food on the holidays.
I’m from playing Avengers with my cousin
And living room concerts for the whole family
Music has never sounded as good as it did on those metal pots and wooden spoons
I’m from hours of rehearsals and stressful auditions,
From singing in church and dancing in the bathroom.
I’m from arts camp and school musicals
While balancing after-school activities and 5 broken bones.
I’m from sleepovers with bestie and abandoned buildings with the boys
From binging shows with big sis and pulling pranks on big bro.
I’m from searching for constellations in the night sky,
To looking in the mirror and finding another star.
