Breast cancer can be treated in a variety of ways and some forms may be combined in order to increase effectiveness.
- Surgery
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation
- Medications
The goals of treatment are to promote active participation in decisions about the therapeutic plan and to alleviate post-treatment discomfort, minimize complications, and educate.
Aside from medical intervention there are some ways that the patient can prevent and reduce the severity of breast cancer.
- Limiting exposure to estrogen
- Hormone replacement therapy causes high levels of estrogen which can cause breast cancer.
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Estrogen is stored within fat tissue.
- Limit alcohol and avoid tobacco
- Alcohol can alter the way a woman’s body metabolizes estrogen.
- Smoking increases your risk for a variety of cancers.
- Exercise regularly
- Exercise not only maintains weight but it also balances high levels of estrogen.
