PAS 4: Lord Voldemort

To continue in our segment of Harry Potter characters that I have beef with, in fifth place, and probably the most obvious, is Lord Voldemort himself. I know, I can already hear a lot of the complaints that this controversial opinion will receive: “How is the main antagonist of the entire series not higher on the list?” Simple: Voldemort is a bad man, yes. But, at least he knows he is a bad man.

You would think it’s obvious why I hate Lord Voldemort; however, your thoughts would be wrong. Yes, Lord Voldemort is the main antagonist in the Harry Potter series. He has been trying to kill Harry since the day that he was born. He even went as far as to murder James and Lily Potter, Harry’s parents, on Halloween night in an attempt to kill Harry himself.

As awful as it sounds, I don’t even have beef with Voldemort because he tried to kill Harry Potter. I have beef with Voldemort because he’s arrogant. He split his soul seven times and made Horcruxes in order for him to have “eternal life.” He was so arrogant, that he believed that nobody would ever find his seven Horcruxes. They were as follows: Tom Riddle’s diary, Rowena Ravenclaw’s lost diadem, Helga Hufflepuff’s cup, Salazar Slytherin’s Lockett, his pet snake Nagini, Marvolo Gaunt’s ring, and Harry Potter.

If Voldemort truly was the most intelligent wizard as he believed, he could’ve made his Horcruxes harder to discover. He could have literally made Horcruxes out of anything. Random rocks, a strand of grass, a grain of salt, even a grain of sand. However, Voldemort got too cocky. He believed he was so powerful and so intelligent that nobody else would ever even think to look for a Horcrux where he had placed them.

Another reason that I have beef with him, I know I sound awful, is that he couldn’t even kill a baby. He says he’s the most powerful wizard in the world, but when he went one-on-one with a literal infant, he was defeated. He could have used any means to kill baby Harry. But no, “The Great Dark Lord” just had to use the killing curse and prove his superiority to the world.

In short, I have beef with Voldemort because he is arrogant and stupid. Not because he’s the main antagonist in the series.

  1. I never watched Harry Potter but I loved how I was able to follow this post and understand why your hatred for Voldemort is so strong! I really liked that you didn’t cop out with saying you didn’t like him because you’re supposed to not like him and I appreciated that you gave valid reasons why.

  2. I like that you gave valid reasons to why you do not like him. Like you stated, Voldemort is a character that you are supposed to hate, but people just hate him because he is the “bad guy”. You gave an actual reason to why you personally aren’t a fan and it makes sense. I have never thought of him in the way that you talked about so thank you! Well done!

  3. I really liked your post! I always disliked the characterization of Voldemort, just because of how idiotic his plans were. How can you not kill a baby?! Or at the very least, have your horcruxes be hard to find. His character was disappointing because he wasn’t really an intelligent villain, yet he’s nicknamed “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.” Doesn’t make sense to me.
