Advising
Advising resources are very important in aiding in a student’s success while attending college. On the School of Engineering Advising Website you will find information regarding the following;
- Advising Handbook
- Academic Plans
- Academic Flowcharts
- Prerequisites
- Academic Warning and Suspension
- Important Resources
- Change of Adviser Request Form
Course Syllabi
At the start of each new semester, Faculty will need to provide a copy of course syllabi and office hours. Electronic copies (PDF preferred but word documents are also accepted) can be sent to Trisha Morton-Griffiths.
The items on the Syllabi Checklist must be included in your syllabus.
To limit the amount of typing you need to do and the space used on your syllabus we have created a webpage with information pertaining to;
- Academic integrity
- Disability accommodation
- Counseling and psychological services
- Reporting harassment and discrimination
- Emergency procedures
- Web cam information
- Mask policy
When you are creating your individual course syllabus, instead of typing the information for the sections above you can simply place the web address with a statement such as to view the academic integrity policy please visit https://sites.psu.edu/soesyllabus/ or to view information on counseling and psychological services please visit https://sites.psu.edu/soesyllabus/
Please note that any syllabi that mention prerequisites, concurrent, and co-requisites should have the following wording;
Prerequisites, concurrent, and co-requisites will be enforced at the time of registration. If students can demonstrate that they have satisfied the Prerequisites, concurrent, and co-requisites by some other means (Transferred courses, standardized tests, equivalent courses, testing, etc.) they can request permission for enrollment by submitting an online form within the LionPATH Student Center.
Students will be allowed to enroll conditionally in courses that require concurrent courses if, based on their current official enrollment, they will satisfy these course requirements prior to the time courses requiring concurrent courses begin, or if they are registered for the concurrent courses in the same semester as the course requiring them.
Students that may have satisfied the prerequisites If students. Conditionally enrolled students who fail to meet the prerequisite, concurrent and co-requisite for the course will be disenrolled from the course by the College Registrar prior to the start of the semester.

Senior Design
Senior Design projects are an important part of a students final year experience. We have a created a Student Resource Page to help answer all the questions students might have about the process and their projects. Faculty are encouraged when meeting with their teams to remind students about this page and stress the importance that they will need to follow the procedures listed on the site.
As part of the project, teams will need to complete posters and videos and upload them on the Senior Design Showcase Site. Please make students aware of this during the early stages of their project.

Shipment Requests
If you need to send materials using UPS or FedEx, fill out a Shipping Request Form.
You will need to be sure to fill out the following information or the form will be returned:
(There are other fields that you can fill out, but the ones below must be filled out in order to process the shipment)
- Company name/contact name sending shipment to
- Phone number
- Address (including city, state and zip)
- Declared value
- Shipment type (next day, ground, etc.)
- Size of package (LxWxH)
- Weight
- Billing (what is the budget that needs charged for shipment, SoE, Research, etc.)
- What is the item being shipped
- What is the reason/purpose for the shipment
Once complete, this form will need to be sent to Trisha Morton-Griffiths or Kelly Kemmet to process.
Student Hire Information
In order to hire a student, you will need to complete a Pre-Hire Request form for each student that you plan to employ each semester.
If you are submitting a form for a research position, please anticipate your needs for the semester. Please indicate the total number of positions you anticipate hiring for each budget if you anticipate needing multiple students hired for the same budget. A position will be posted with multiple openings if you anticipate hiring more than one student for that budget. We cannot add openings to a job number once it has been created. If you need to hire more students for a budget after the job is posted, we will need to create another job listing for that budget.
For questions on student hires, please contact Glenn Light
Technician Work Order
A work order form must be completed for any items that need to be completed by a Technician. You must be logged into sites in order to access and complete this form.
Faculty can place work orders for the following;

Textbook Requests
Faculty should contact publishers directly to request an evaluation or desk copy of a textbook for their course. If the publisher requires the request to come from the School of Engineering office or they will not provide a free copy and we will need to purchase the text, please complete a Textbook Request Form. We will then place the request or purchase and follow up with you.
If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Kemmet
Travel
All travel requests will need to be submitted using the Penn State SAP Concur site. To view step-by-step instructions for the new process, click here
Please note, If you are requesting travel when no funds are needed, you still must enter an expense in order to submit the form. Therefore, we ask that you please include at least one expense but add a comment indicating NO FUNDS REQUESTED instead of the funding type in the additional information/comment section
If you have any questions or concerns related to this process please contact Jennifer Zdaniewski for clarification.
