Bandali Debs was born on July 18, 1953, in Narre Warren, in southeast Melbourne, Australia. Little is known about his background, except he worked as a tiler and father of five children.
His first victim was found on April 22, 1995. Her name was Donna Ann Hicks, and she was found naked on the roadside in Minchinbury, west Sydney. She was killed by a gunshot to the head and worked on the Great Western Highway as a prostitute.
Debs’s net victim was Kristy Mary Harty, who was killed on June 17, 1997. She also works as a prostitute along the Prices Highway. She met Debs, and they drove to a secluded bush track where they had unprotected sex. Afterward, Debs shot her in the back of the head.
On August 16, 1998, two officers, Sargent Gary Silk and Senior Constable Rodney Miller, were staking out the Silky Emperor Restaurant in Moorabbin. Around midnight they were shot at close range. When these murders were investigated, they found broken glass at the scene, and it was tested and found to be from a late model Hyundai hatchback. After more investigation, the make and model were found. The vehicle was registered to the daughter of Debs.
Debs was arrested along with an accomplice named Jason Roberts. Both were charged with the murders of Silk and Miller and thirteen other charges of armed robbery. In February of 2003, Debs was sentenced to two life sentences, and Roberts was sentenced to two life sentences with a minimum term of thirty-fie years.
Now you’re wondering where the prostitutes play in this blog. In May of 2007, Debs was charged with the murder of Kristy Mary Harty and received another life sentence. In court, Justice Kaya said, “Your murder of Ms. Harty was entirely senseless, needless, and wanton. The evidence discloses beyond any doubt that this was not a case of a sexual encounter in which, in the heat of the moment, feelings or passions may have led to a spontaneous and irrational act of violence. Rather, and quite to the contrary, this was, most clearly, a callous, craven, and senseless murder in cold blood of an entirely innocent, defenseless, and vulnerable young woman. The evidence leads to the inevitable conclusion that you murdered Kristy Harty for no other reason than for the sheer sake of it.” It does not say in the book I use but I assume that the other two girls were eventually liked to Debs.
Currently, in prison, Debs is studying psychology, computer training, and other life skills. He works as a carpet cleaner in prison.
All my information was found from Jack Rosewood’s book ” The Big Book of Serial Killers”
Learning about these serial killers is so amazing. I only knew a handful of these killers, yet I was amazed and fascinated by them and their actions when I read these posts. It is so crazy to read about these people!
