In accordance with LGBT History Month, Penn State Behrend will be hosting a Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon that will provide students with the opportunity to add depth and information to pages regarding LGBTQ-people on Wikipedia’s website.

The event will be held this coming Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Room 107 at the John M. Lilley Library from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., as part of a multi-campus initiative within the Penn State Libraries system. All interested students are welcome to attend for any amount of time, so they can participate in the learning process involved with editing the open-source platform that is Wikipedia.

Through the course of the Edit-a-Thon, students will work on editing and adding information to existing LGBTQ pages and building new pages for those who currently lack representation on Wikipedia. Those who participate will have the added opportunity to place unique and local perspectives on the pages. Volunteering students will also benefit from having the opportunity to work with Special Collections during the research-gathering and editing process.

Students who have experience with Wikipedia are encouraged to attend, as well as all students who are enthused about this initiative.

We hope to see you this Tuesday, even if it is just for a little while, so that we can partake in this fun and educational experience together.
