National Library Week banner

April 3-9 is National Library Week, an event focused on connecting people to their libraries. Libraries everywhere offer a wide range of resources, programs, and services, and the John M. Lilley Library is no exception. To encourage the Behrend community to visit the library and learn more about our collections, spaces, and services, we’ll be hosting a variety of student-focused events and activities.

SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES

Monday, April 4 – Doodle Day

  • Lilley Library, room 102
  • 9 am to 3 pm

Take a break in between classes to doodle or color adult coloring pages. Did you know doodling may help you relax, pay attention, and recall details? Check out the blog post, “The ‘thinking’ benefits of doodling” from the Harvard Health Blog for more information.

Also, stop by the library and check our social media to see a life-like model of our circulation desk handmade by Library Assistant, Nancy Loker.

Tuesday, April 5 – National Library Workers Day

Need a book or movie recommendation? Visit the library to see what the library staff are reading, watching, and listening to! Also, it’s been awhile (if ever) since you’ve seen our faces. Check out our social media to see a group photo of us taken in celebration of the day.

Wednesday, April 6 – Game Day

  • Lilley Library, room 102
  • 9 am to close

Did you know you can borrow board games from our library? Stop by to browse our games and play with a friend. Like always, we’ll have a puzzle for you to work on too! We also have many video games for a variety of consoles. Browse them in our library catalog here

Thursday, April 7 – Film Screening: The Public (2018)

Location: Lilley Library, room 102

Written and directed by Emilio Estevez, The Public tells the story of “an act of civil disobedience turns into a standoff with police when homeless people in Cincinnati take over the public library to seek shelter from the bitter cold” (IMDB.com). Rated PG-13. Runtime is 1h 59 min.

This event is free and open to all Penn State students, faculty, and staff. Unfortunately, this event is not open to the public. Space is limited to 20 people, first come, first serve. Learning component: Attendees will be encouraged to briefly reflect on the value of libraries and access to affordable information.
