Project Summary

Overview

Erie Insurances has tasked the team with the adaptation of their mobile application to meet user’s needs; this will enforce Erie Insurance’s pledge of service and retain customer loyalty. The Erie Insurance app redesign project entails rebuilding the mobile app in such a way that meets the industry standards and includes features requested by the app’s users.

Objectives

The team’s objective was to rebuild the app to include features and implement updates that appease Erie Insurance’s app users. Such features include notifications, dynamic menus, and additional in-app payment options.

Approach

  • The team first gathered information on user needs. This information was sourced through surveying users, analyzing reviews from the Appstore, and heading suggestions from JD Power.
  • The team created multiple app wireframes to trial potential feature layouts of the app.
  • Our team analyzed the apps of top competitors such as Allstate, Nationwide, and Geico
  • Each concept generated from our research was weighed on its ease of navigation.
  • These wireframe models were created in a user interface design platform called Figma.
  • A working prototype of the app was created in the Mendix development platform that modeled portions of the target functionality Erie Insurances new app would need to succeed.
  • This model was tested by walking through the user interface on a smartphone to analyze how intuitive the user interface was.

Outcomes

  • This project has laid the groundwork for Erie Insurance to move forward in developing a new mobile application.
  • The project offers an opportunity for Erie Insurance to increase their customer retention rate through a competitive app.
  • Project also laid groundwork for an app that fosters continuous improvement by implementing features for users to directly leave feedback within the application. This will ensure that the users are always heard, and their feedback distilled into new features and updates.
