- Q1: Can an instructor conduct remote synchronous sessions without recording the lectures? Students tend to skip classes or pay no attention once they know the lecture is being recorded
- A1: There is no requirement for you to record the class. The Remote Synchronous mode has assigned days and times, and the faculty should make the students aware of their “attendance” in that environment.
- Q2: Are wireless microphones going to be available?
- A2: We are looking into this, and I will let you know as soon as more information is available.
- Q3: What if a student becomes COVID-positive during the semester?
- A3: If social distancing and masks are being used, quarantining for the entire class should not be automatic. The University will employ contact tracing and determine outcomes for quarantining. See here for more details.
- Q4: Do we need to keep seating charts to help with contact tracing?
- A4: Seating charts are not required as far as we know.
- Q5: What do we do with hearing-impaired students when they cannot read my lips due to mask-wearing?
- A5: We don’t have an answer for this. At this time, masks must be worn at all times and face shields are to be worn with masks. What we suggest is to direct these students to courses offered remotely so that the masks are not required in that setting by the instructor or the student.
- Q6: Can I wear a face shield instead of a mask?
- A6: No, but you can wear both of them as far as we know.
- Q7: Are there Zoom etiquette policies available?
- A7: There seem to be many samples available on the Internet (e.g., https://blog.zoom.us/video-conference-etiquette/).
- Q8: Can students sign up for classes offered through the World Campus or any other campuses?
- A8: Yes, but students from other campuses will only be allowed to add a course at a different commonwealth campus in the week leading up to the first day of class. Until then, students can, as they have always been able to do, sign up for a class at another campus if that course is posted on the Digital Learning Cooperative (DLC) website. Please also read this article on students temporarily changing their campuses altogether.
