Green Cars

I have never really found myself interested in cars, and would honestly drive anything. If you asked me how a car engine worked, I would have no clue how to answer that. Despite this, the battery Tesla models have caught my attention. They are cars years ahead with their self driving features and many other amazing engineering feats, all while being completely battery powered. In my opinion, I think they are the future of cars.

Over the last years, green cars have been a popular conversation topic. This conversation has of course changed over the years. The Toyota Prius was the go-to green and ecofriendly car for many years. It is a hybrid and has one of the best fuel efficiency. However, driving a Prius has almost become a meme. There are many comments thrown around such as: “A Prius just tried to race me from a stop sign. I totally had it for the first 100 feet…But I can only walk so fast”. There are also many jokes about them not being masculine or fast enough.

This has been the stigma against environmentally friendly cars; however, the Tesla has changed that.

Due to the fact that Tesla is an electric car, this means technically it is zero-emission. Despite this, it does run on electricity, which can be created from different sources– even coal and other fossil fuels. Coal is known has the “dirtiest” form of energy and has received the attack it deserves. Cola power plants emit CO2 and other noxious gases. However, Elon Musk is no idiot and is very aware of this and argues that in the big picture Tesla’s cars are till cleaner due to the longevity of the battery: “A Model S can travel upwards of 265 miles on a single charge of its 85 kilowatt-hour battery, which equates to less than 3 gallons of gas. Its official EPA miles-per-gallon equivalent is 89, far greater than a standard Toyota Prius”. Not only is the Tesla “cooler” than the Prius it is also more ecofriendly. In addition to this, the clean energy movement and decrease use of coal will eliminate this problem. Tesla has even recently come out with a solar powered charger for the car.

Due to its recent popularity and “clout” aspect the Tesla has become the lead driver in the gasless movement. The more you drive a Tesla, the more green it becomes; so if everyone were to buy or invest in Tesla it would make the production process more green and the driving would cover the costs of production. However, Tesla is still relatively new and because of this prices are so high and very unaffordable for most Americans.
