Zoom Breakout Room Management
The instructor (the host) and only the host can assign participants to breakout rooms. The host can join and leave any breakout room during the meeting.
Co-host Privileges
In the event that the instructor would like to allow an additional participant (e.g. the research librarian, a co-teacher, a guest speaker, etc.) to join and leave breakout rooms:
- Assign the participant to be a Co-host in the meeting.
- Co-host doesn’t see the Breakout Rooms button until they are assigned to a breakout room.
- Assign the participant (with the Co-Host role) to a breakout room
- Co-host sees the Breakout Rooms button
- Co-host clicks Join to enter their assigned breakout room from the main session
- From the assigned breakout room, Co-host can click the Breakout Rooms button to display the list of other breakout rooms, select another room, and click Join to enter the selected room.
Notes:
- Co-host doesn’t have an Ask for Help button in the breakout room.
- The chat message sent from a breakout room goes to participants in that specific breakout room only, even though it says Everyone (in Meeting) when message is sent in the breakout room.
