Course Accessibility – Designing an accessible course ensures that all learners, including learners with disabilities, can fully and equally access course content and activities.
The Course Accessibility Badge is one of five first-level badges in the PSU Berks Innovation in Teaching Excellence Program, a faculty development program offered by the Center for Learning & Teaching at Penn State Berks.
To earn this badge, attend at least 3 Course Accessibility sessions from the Innovation in Teaching Excellence Program. A variety of eligible offerings are announced annually by the Center for Learning & Teaching.
Examples of qualifying sessions: What faculty need to know about accessibility, Accessibility Tips for Canvas, Accessible Word Documents, Intro to Universal Design.
This badge can be earned over the course of multiple academic years. The Center for Learning & Teaching will help track your progress toward this badge. The final step is to write a reflection about Course Accessibility and submit it to the badging platform. You’ll receive instructions when you’ve reached this milestone.
If you earn the Course Accessibility badge in addition to one, two, or three other first-level program badges, you will automatically be awarded the Bronze, Silver, or Gold Star Award respectively–top-level digital badges in the PSU Berks Innovation in Teaching Excellence Program. You will also receive a printed certificate.
