The CLS participated in Penn State’s STEM Envision Career Day, on February 24, 2024. Graduate RA, Catherine Pham, led a highly engaging workshop on exploring language learning in babies, with support from CLS assistant director, Frances Blanchette, and CLS lab manager, Erica Hsieh. Thanks to Catherine, Erica, Frances, and the young people who enthusiastically participated!





Approximately one hundred students from high schools in Centre County visited Penn State for the CLS’s fifth annual Language and Linguistics Day on April 17, 2024. The students were exposed to the fields of linguistics and language science through hands-on activities and discussions on topics including language variation, the tones of language, and language and artificial intelligence. The day ended with a linguistics competition and a team from State College High School took the first prize.
