Overview
The Biotech Boardroom Program at Penn State brings together students, faculty, and alumni to drive innovation at the crossroads of Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation. This program features a biannual pitch competition where teams of students design cutting-edge biotechnology solutions that address the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through the program, students hone their entrepreneurial and research skills, preparing them for impactful careers in the biotech industry.

What to Expect
- Global Collaborations: Students work with peers from the University of Zurich and participate in pitch presentations during events like Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) in the fall and Startup Week in the spring.
- Open to All Majors: While the program primarily focuses on Biotechnology students, Biotechnology cluster Entrepreneurship & Innovation (ENTI) minor students, and IUG (Integrated Undergrad-Grad) Biotechnology students, all Penn State students are encouraged to join, creating a rich diversity of ideas and perspectives across teams. The competition encompasses Biotechnology classes as well.
Expert Guidance
Students are mentored by alumni from the Eberly College of Science, offering real-world insights from industries such as pharmaceuticals and healthcare. Teams have access to valuable resources, including patent lawyers and research databases, as they refine their products through a series of three pitches.
Become a Mentor or Judge
We invite alumni to play a key role in shaping the next generation of innovators:
- Mentors: Guide students throughout the semester, offering advice and real-world insights.
- Judges: Provide feedback after each pitch and help students improve their projects.
Share your experiences, ask thought-provoking questions, and contribute to the development of tomorrow’s biotech leaders. Interested? Learn more on our Alumni Volunteers page and discover how you can get involved!
