Abstract: This lecture explores the ideological pillars that support the Christian Right movement in the United States. Toggling between the Christian Right of the 1970s and 1980s and our current moment, it examines how the organizing logic of patriarchal traditionalism works in tandem with antisemitism and White supremacy to produce an anti-liberal and antidemocratic politics.

 

Bio: Chelsea Ebin is an assistant professor of political science and international relations at Drew University, author of The Radical Mind: The Origins of Right-Wing Catholic and Protestant Coalition Building, and coeditor of Male Supremacism in the United States: From Patriarchal Traditionalism to Misogynist Incels and the Alt-Right.
