On July 28th I met with my English professor, Jess Rafalko. We talked about her previous jobs before her current job. She expressed that she was very fortunate that she didn’t have to work for much and luckily landed a successful career. She attended Ohio State as an undergraduate and majored in English. Then went to a community college to receive her PHD. Her advice to me was to learn to trust my instincts and pursue what I love.
I think office hours are stressed to students as an important activity and resource so that you can be at a personal level with your professor. Sometimes it’s easy to forget they are not there just to teach and grade, they’re people. Getting to know about your professors outside of the classroom is important to you as a student, and to them as a professor because you just “sent a message” to them. Using office hours will definitely be a huge advantage throughout college, especially when in massive lectures.
