The Unsolved Case of JonBenét Ramsey

Background

That adorable little girl in the picture is JonBenét Ramsey, a beauty pageant queen. Who would have thought that the 6-year-old girl would be found dead on the morning after Christmas 1996 in the basement of her Boulder, Colorado home. Her mother claimed to have recieved a ransom noted demanding $118,000 in exchange for JonBenét’s return. Her body was said to be murdered through strangulation and blunt-force trauma to her skill.  What is so peculiar about this case is that 25 years later, the investigation is still open as the murder remains unsolved. As you can imagine, there were multiple suspects for this case, each one seemingly more suspicious than the next.

The Suspect List:

Her Mother

Patsy Ramsay was a prime suspect in her JonBenét Ramsay’s case but she had eventually lost her 13-year battle with ovarian cancer. Even so, many think that the former Miss West Virginia was the one responsible for the murder. In the first place, it’s been said that while cleaning up one more one of JonBenét’s bed-wetting mishaps, which are said to have happened with some recurrence, Patsy flipped a switch and pummeled her daughter’s head against the side of a hard, gruff surface like a bathtub. Second, JonBenét was found with a rope around her neck, fixed by a homemade constructed garrote resolved to have been designed out of a paintbrush taken from Patsy’s paint pack that lay close by. Third, Patsy said she found a more than two page ransom note. Written in unusual fashion that appeared to be from a mock-up crime film, the note demanded $118,000 to be given to the “foreign faction” by 10 a.m. the following day, which was subsequently sorted out to be a similar measure of John Ramsey’s Christmas reward from his Christmas bonus. A few sources have speculated that Patsy composed the note herself in a momrnt of frenzy after what she had done to JonBenét. In any case, the handwriting analysis came out inconclusive although the note had been written on a piece of Patsy’s stationery from inside the home with her own pen. Based on this evidence, there is no doubt in my mind that Patsy was somehow involved in her daughter’s murder or at the very least helped cover it up.

A Random Teacher

In 2006 John Mark Karr admitted to the 1996 strangulation of JonBenét in extremely graphic and sexual detail. Karr was arrested in Thailand where he’d been living after facing child pornography charges in the U.S. The now 51-year-old at first carried himself into the wreck by contacting a University of Colorado Boulder teacher named Michael Tracey over email concerning a documentary Tracey was making about the case. When those messages took an upsetting turn – uncovering the man’s sexual interest with JonBenét – Tracey reported Karr to the police who took him in as a potential suspect. He was however cleared after his DNA did not match with that found on the crime scene. The way I see it, this was a very ill and sick individual that was obsessed with the case and created a fantasy with his twisted mind but nothing beyond that.

Her Brother

A group of investigators in 2016, contemplated the entirety of the evidence from the case. The group completely rebuilt the Ramsey basement to scale and reenacted the homicide to check whether a nine-year-old kid might actually hit hard enough to murder his sister. I personally feel that this is the most likely of the possibilities as the parents would have an incentive to protect their son if they knew that it was indeed him who killed their daughter. Acclaimed criminological investigator Werner Spitz claimed that Burke Ramsay killed JonBenét with a flashlight. He suggested that the little girl took a piece of pineapple from Burke’s late-night snack stash – provoking him to lash out with the close by light.Investigators exploring the demise for the TV show asserted Burke had “a background of mental issues”. Moreover, an at no other time heard telephone discussion was depicted in which JonBenet’s family are professed to have said “What have you done?” to the child. Burke dispatched a £120million claim against the master accordingly which ultimately arrived at a settlement, yet the terms were not unveiled.
