This past week in Colorado the Plague took the life of an adult. The Plague is an old disease that used to kill almost anyone who contracted it until they finally created a cure for it and sanitation became a priority. The only animal that is confirmed to also have the Plague in the immediate area of Pueblo County is a dead Prairie Dog.
Pueblo County was not the first to be affected by the Plague. In Larimer County earlier this year a teen died from the Plague and in 2014, eight people passed away from the Plague.
I have always been afraid of something like this happening to us as it could potentially cause widespread concern and people may even start to lose their minds. If this were to spread throughout the country I am sure that there would be widespread chaos. Although we have the medicine to cure the Plague, if another disease such as Ebola or something more contagious came along, we as a country would be unprepared. There is an episode of Spongebob where the citizens of the town revolt and that is exactly how I imagine the people in Colorado if the Plague continues to spread. It may sound like a joke but it is not, we as a society need to prepare for a natural disaster of this proportion in order to save ourselves in case of something this bad actually occurring.
