Passion Blog #1: Making a Murderer Review

Have you ever questioned the unlimited rights and power that we give the judicial system and police force? Maybe too much power… “Making a Murderer” is a TV documentary series that can be found and streamed through Netflix which shows a real life example of how authorities take advantage of the power their given. I was extremely drawn in to watch the pilot episode because the idea of a man being accused of a crime he possible didn’t commit seemed too intriguing.  To continue, Steven Avery is a quiet man from a small town in Wisconsin called Manitowoc. The episode begins with Mr. Avery being released from prison in September of 2003 after eighteen years of sitting behind bars. Steven Avery and his family were strongly disliked by the rest of the citizens in their town simply because they did not “fit in”. The Avery family was a poor and uneducated group of people who didn’t do much besides work at their local used car auto lot; they were trying to share a town filled with wealthier and “proper” folks who cared too much about labels. A woman was brutally raped and attacked on a beachfront near Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The victim herself said that the police of Manitowoc tried to convince her that Steven Avery was the guy that attacked her. They pushed this to the point where she started to believe it. Steven Avery was arrested for the rape of this young woman and went through a lengthy trial to try and prove his innocence. He had over twenty two witnesses who say that they were with Steven at the time of the attack. When another suspect was brought into the mix, the Manitowoc police department ignored it and only pursued Avery. Eighteen years went by and Steven Avery sat in a jail cell and refused to admit to a crime that he knew he didn’t commit. Eventually, he tried to appeal his case so many times that it finally went through. With new technology, the evidence was looked at again and it showed that the DNA found on the woman was in fact not Steven Avery, but the suspect that the police refused to look at before. It is clear that the judicial system and the police force did many things that would appear against the law or not protocol. The episode came to a close shortly after this was revealed but the rest of the series seems to entail another Crime that Avery is accused of after he is released. I recommend this show to anyone and everyone because the storyline is completely baffling and proves that there is something seriously wrong with the powers given to the judicial system and what they’re able to get away with so easily. A young man went to jail for eighteen years for a crime he didn’t commit because he was outcast in the town he lives in. It shows that something needs to change because I am sure that Steven Avery isn’t the only man in prison. Who knows if police have planted evidence to frame people that they have extreme hatred for. Making a Murderer is going to surface the truth and I am excited to watch the rest of the documentary series.

Welcome!

Hello! Welcome to my passion blog that will premise around pilot episodes on a wide variety of television shows. I will put my Netflix, XFinity, and Hulu account to good use and watch newer and older shows; I will give a summary and review on these shows and let readers know if they’re worth taking the time to watch. The purpose of this blog is to open not only my reader’s eyes to television shows but myself and become more familiar with TV that I usually wouldn’t find interest in. My method on picking the weekly shows is to see what’s “hot and upcoming” in the media.
