A woman standing alone in a red coat and blue jeans with a blue cinch bag, facing darkness in front of her, picture taken from behind her.

Written Sometime in November, Mid-Haze

Thank you for loving
the shadows in my mind,
the dark spaces and lonely places
I turn to when I want to
hide away and withdraw;
when I’m ashamed of who I am.
Thank you for meeting me
with a candle instead of a foglight.
Thank you for patient reminders
of your love when you’re greeted
by a text recounting another
nightmare.
Thank you for holding me while
I cry,
afraid of nothing and everything,
quaking and curling into you as
sobs reverberate from the depths of
my dark places, where I hide.

Hide away with me tonight.
