Penn State is Indy Bound!

Penn State Football is Indy bound for the first time since 2008. “Wisconsin- Penn State, a game no one saw coming,” titles an ESPN article released three days ago, discussing the remarkable and unexpected season our Nittany Lions played.

Being the loyal fans the students of Penn State are, thousands of Nittany Lions will be making the eight hour trip to Indianapolis to support our team in the Big 10 Championship game.

They’ll be playing in Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the NFL Indianapolis Colts. Although it has a state of the art retractable roof that in itself, cost $40 million dollars, there is no guarantee that it will be closed. According to the stadium’s website, the roof is only closed in times in inclement weather, like rain or snow. The forecast expects less than a 5% chance of rain Saturday, so Penn State students should get ready to bundle up for the 35 degree weather.

The last few football games I’ve attended at Beaver stadium, my body was numb by the end of the first quarter. The last game against Michigan State was remarkable, mostly because I was able to stay warm for the first two hours instead of the first fifteen minutes!

So here is what I wore, and what I suggest you wear if you are lucky enough to be traveling to the championship this weekend.

  1. Layers, layers, layers. Wear as many layers as you can, while maintaining the ability to move your arms and legs.
  2. Wear a thermal underneath all those layers. I wore an Underarmour turtleneck to the Michigan State game and I am convinced it is what made the difference.
  3. Wear at least two pairs of pants, but three pairs are even better. (Leggings, jeans, sweatpants, etc.)
  4. Wear several layers of thick socks, but also insert toe/hand warmers before putting on your shoe. I find that no number of socks will keep out the cold for a full game, but the toe warmers can withstand the temperatures.
  5. Lastly, don’t forget the winter accessories: gloves, a hat, and even a scarf.

Have fun, stay warm, and cheer on our team!

My roommate’s sister bought a PSU onesie to bundle up in for this game-genius move in my opinion!
