The quest to achieve fame

In a world of Youtube, Vine (rip), and Twitter, it seems like “being famous” has taken on a whole new meaning. Do you count as famous if you have one tweet with hundreds of thousands of likes, or is that term still reserved for red carpet events and hoards of paparazzi trailing behind you? Either way, it’s much easier nowadays to gain attention, even if just for a few days or hours. At least I hope so for the sake of the exasperated girl that I watched attempt a math problem over and over again before she let out a half-sigh, half-scream and exclaimed:

“I’m banking on becoming famous, because I can’t do 4 more years of this!”

Now, to give you a little bit of background, it was:

a) only Tuesday

b) only 6pm

c) from what I could tell, only an intro-level math course.

Given that this (presumably) freshman was already preparing to drop out, I suddenly felt better about my mild stress surrounding the midterm I had the next day. Nevertheless, I couldn’t help but feel bad for the poor girl, because we’ve all been in that boat. Everyone has had days (or weeks) with a million exams, hours of homework, tons of studying to do, and no time to do any of it. Sometimes the only thing you can do soldier on and think to yourself “after Friday, my stress is over.” Other times, the only thing you can do is take a nap and hope that when you wake up your stress is gone (note: that never seems to work but it’s a nice thought!).

Anyway, since this girl was so stressed and I was starting to feel the pressure myself, I figured I’d leave you with a few things to do next time you’re having one of those weeks where everything goes wrong and you just can’t seem to keep up.

  1. Organize your room

My busy weeks typically end with a messy room because I’ve been running around the whole week and haven’t been putting everything back where it belongs. Especially in small spaces like dorms, simply cleaning up so that everything is orderly and neat can make you feel much more put together and alleviate some stress.

  1. Make a playlist of your favorite songs

It seems like a weird suggestion (and it might be, maybe it only works for me) but go

through your music library and put together a playlist of your favorite songs. Not only do

you get to go through and remember songs you may have forgotten you love, but you

also have a great playlist to get you through the rest of the week while you accomplish

all of your tasks!

  1. Listen to a playlist of Gameday/Beaver Stadium songs

Yeah, yeah your own music is great, but even better than that is anything that reminds

you of football games. Don’t let it get you down because football is over, let it cheer you

up because Blue and White is right around the corner!!

  1. Watch The Office

Honestly not much makes me laugh more than The Office. And by laugh I mean actually

laugh, as in my roommate might walk in on me sitting alone with my laptop wiping away

tears. Sounds like a crazy person thing to do, but trust me, if you’re stressed enough you

forget that it seems crazy to sit alone and laugh and just enjoy the jokes!

  1. Doodle/Color

They make stress relief coloring books that are pretty cool, but I recently discovered a

super fun way to relax that I’d never heard of before. My roommate got me this sticker

coloring book that is basically like a color by number but with stickers instead of paint.

Basically the back of the book has stickers in all different shapes that correspond to the

pictures in the book and you match them up. Does it seem childish? Maybe a little. But

will you be hooked as soon as you start? Definitely.

Hopefully you don’t find yourself overwhelmed all too often, but if you do, here’s to hoping that you can manage that stress! If not, try and think of a funny tweet or video because your best bet might be to become famous…
