Stance For Justice

A single woman stands in the roadway, feet firmly planted. She poses no obvious threat. She is there to protest the excessive force which against police brutality. Yet it seems to be appear that she is being arrested. For as long as we can remember there has been a separation between us as a society. Groups of people who are seen as “superior” to others. Where the color of our skin defines who we are as individuals and what we will turn out to be. Some people believe that racism has long ceased to be a danger in American society or even the world for that issue. They fail to see the fight against injustice going on in our everyday life. Many believe that racism no longer exists or is as prominent as it was once, merely because they do not have to go through the experiences that minorities do on a day-to-day basis.

As the woman stood in front of the police officers she gave off an air of peaceful determination and defiance. Her willful bravery and motivation became the source of her protection. As police surrounded the area and her demeanor seem to be strong willed as she seems to be there for a purpose showing no anger or sadness, but resilience instead.

We can see the difference in attire between the woman and the police officers. The police officers are geared up with protective layers and armor ready to defend themselves when needed. The woman however stands in front of them in a flowing dress with nothing to bear in her arms. Her hair is nicely done and she seems to be wearing some sort of flats or sandals. This in turn shows she had no intention of running anywhere as the clothes she had wore would not allow her to do so efficiently.

The photo had made a remarkable impact to the Black Lives Matter movement. Many of the protest going on were peaceful and we can see her that this was this women intent as well. She meant no harm to herself or to the police officers working that day. Her pose and attitude all leads to her wanting to make a statement and a difference to herself and society.

Many people who look at this picture probably feel a sense of bravery and peacefulness. At least thats what I feel when I look at it. In the midst of all the commotions she remained calm, cool, and collected with a mission in mind.
