Stranger Things

Hello! Welcome back to my blog where each week I talk about a different TV show/movie I think carries an important message. This week, I’ve decided to cover the show Stranger Things. Stranger Things is a Netflix original, and has three seasons. The show is written and directed by the now famous Duffer brothers (this show was their first major project). Soon after the show hit Netflix, it began receiving a lot of attention for its creepy and compelling storyline accompanied by its many likable characters.

Stranger Things takes place in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, and is centered around a group of middle school friends and their families. Hawkins is a town where nothing out of the ordinary occurs, that is, until a local boy named Will Byers goes missing, and a door to another dimension is opened by a young girl with telekinetic powers named Eleven. When Eleven escapes the lab she is being held at, she encounters the group of boys, and they take her in. The rest of the show deals with trying to find Will, Eleven trying to close the door, and how all of these “strange things” affect everyone in the town.

The main admirable qualities of this show are the friendship and loyalty that these kids have for one another. As childhood friends, they have a “no one gets left behind” mentality, and this includes their new friend Eleven as well. Seeing the strong bonds between the characters while watching the show is heartwarming, and sparks a sense of reminiscence in the audience. Stranger Things really does makes you feel like a kid again. Coupled with the setting of the show (70s into the 80s), Stranger Things feels like a good memory, even if you weren’t alive during that time.

Also, throughout the seasons, you begin to understand the characters in a deeper way. This allows you to sympathize with characters you may have previously disliked. A show that can do this is very unique in my opinion.

Overall, I could not speak any higher of Stranger Things. It is one of my absolute favorite shows of all time. It’s plot, dynamic characters, and sense of nostalgia all culminate to produce what is one of the most popular shows today. Like I say every post, I highly recommend!
