Cell Phones

It is easy to get a cell phone in State College. The phones are generally Prepaid and Postpaid types.
- Prepaid connections are available from AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, Mint, Cricket or H2O (Website links are given below). It is encouraged to check the website for detail information before choosing any network. Many students also buy Lycamobile as they have a package of around thousand minutes talk time for Bangladesh. However, most students use data for connecting with home. The prepaid phones are pretty much similar like Bangladesh; but generally here you have to pay for the 4G LTE data. Almost all the carriers have their own offer – you can go to a nearby store, fill some paperwork and you will be done.
- Those who will attend the International orientation, you can find an AT&T kiosk at the HUB-Robeson Building at University Park. The AT&T representatives can help you with more detailed information.
- Post paid connection with long term contract (Usually 2 years) is also available with different service providers like AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. For the postpaid connection, you may require SSN (Social Security Number) and Credit History. Sometimes ‘family plans’ up to 5 persons is cheaper than the individual plans. A family plan or Group Plan is one in which a common cell phone account can be accessed by two or more people. You will get individual phone numbers, but you will share some of the plan features. Family plans are great if you want to save some money by sharing costs for the cell phone connection. These plans are available for pre-paid as well as contract options. Sometimes you can get cash-back for referring to others.
