2.3.3 Design Final: Thirteen Ways to Look at a Blackbird

2.3.3 Design Final: Thirteen Ways to Look at a Blackbird

I would say that this project was challenging from finding out how to create the concept by drawing out each stanza by how my mind would comprehend how much we could get done. Then after coming up with the concept it comes up to trying to creating the art using the various letters, numbers, and symbols to be able to create the concepts on Illustrator. The first thing that I did before I started creating the artwork is I had to rethink a few things for my concepts. There is not too many changes that makes it completely noticeable but some minor changes that I made does show the difference in some of the drawings. It was a lot of editing that I had to do because I wanted to make sure that I did the best that I can. During the process of creating things for the project I tried to make the project a little more fun by doing some things a little different and I gotta say I had a lot of fun with the project even though it was a little stressful creating it, but in the end I am happy with the result with how it turned out.

2.3.2 Design Iteration: Blackbird

2.3.2 Design Iteration: Blackbird

I think that my interpretation of the blackbird should be somewhat different but I tried to think of different concepts for each of the Stanzas because I want to see what my take of the stanza of the poem. When it came to the iteration I thought of ways I could be able to make this project give that sensory detail that the poem had given for their readers. That was what I was thinking of when I think I created those concept drawings. When I first drew out these idea I was just thinking in a literal sense of how I want to draw it, and I did realize there was some ideas that actually was solid for the project. I started this thinking I would be able to make something that would be different from previous iterations that was made by previous students. I still feel like I should change some of the concepts that I did previously make to look nicer and better. The thing that people think about when it came to concepts is to be able to find the drawings that are suitable that is the huge challenge, and I think there are many people that have come up with some great ideas.

2.3.1 Design Concept: Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

2.3.1 Design Concept

When it comes to having a vision we know that people have a different perspective when it comes to analyzing things. Such as this poem which is called Blackbird. The poem provides thirteen stanzas of visionary perspectives. Each stanza of the poem is envisioned as like a scene from the person imagination. While I was reading the poem I thought a lot about the meaning of each of the stanzas, but the main thing that came into mind when talking about a piece is how could I sketch it out with somewhat accuracy to the words. That’s when it hit me, I should just draw to what I think each stanza is trying to tell me. That is what was the interesting thing about the project. Everything that we are drawing is some of the basic thoughts of when it comes to reading this poem. The way I did this sketch I just did them individually, but yet again these were some concepts that I had thought of when I read the poem. It isn’t the most accurate thing that I could offer but it is a start when I start putting the project together then I would think of new ways I could draw each stanza out. These were some of the sketches I had made:

2.2 Exercise Reflections

2.2.1 Gestalt Praxis

Gestalt’s Theory talks about symmetry and asymmetry of many different things which is the balance of either the x axis or the y axis shows similar features on either side of the picture. The thing about this assignment is the creation of each structure to make sure that they are aligned, straight, and of course symmetrical to the counter parts on the other side of the structure. Symmetry puts its main focus on both the x and y axis which are the lines of origin that should be the main focus of the assignment. The line of the x and y axis exist but the lines are invisible for the naked eye to see.

2.2.2 Grid Systems

Grids are considered a structural model when it comes to start brainstorming or working on assignment. The origin of the grid was originally used for art movement but now a days it used as a way to measure out things properly. Along with using rulers and guidelines it has made it easier for people who use things like Illustrator to create things artworks, but they are also available for other applications that artists use for projects that they create and work on day in and day out. Before reading about grids I though they would be more of thing that the military would use to locate anybody that they would deem as a potential enemy. But to know that they use it for art it is a useful tool that they have which would be considered the best.

2.2.3 Drawing with Type

When hearing the word type I thought of typing on a keyboard but the true meaning of it is in terms of a digital artist it would involve the use of different kinds of fonts which means font styles and font size. This work involves me using my initials and using these techniques from this page and creating some sort of logo for myself I might use it. After reading all of this I know more about the importance of the use of Fonts in a project whether it is a writing project or art project it is something that everybody should use.

2.1 Reference Reflections

2.1.1 …of Looking at…

There are certain ways to look at a lot of things whether it is a picture, story, or for this point a poem. Blackbird is an imagination grabber for many artists and the best thing about it is the amount of image evoking that the poem had given to all of its readers. It is giving the reader a way of seeing the world through the eyes of the poem writer and not that of a painter. It could be the job of the painter though that appeals to them, and they express that through their style of art that they are used too.

2.1.2 2D Basics

The point of 2D art is the amount of things that can be seen by just looking at shapes put together to create an art that is visually stunning. Using techniques such as grid, which is use as like a sort of guide of placement of the shapes when you put them on the grid of the canvas that you are working with for your art work. For digital artists being able to use these techniques give a sense of being visually flexible of what they can do with the computer system and program that they have to create an original work.

2.1.3 Gestalt Theory

There was one thing that I learned from reading about Gestalts Theory, is how can someone create an art that can confuse ones perception of the artwork. It was interesting to see the artworks that were created that is noticeably very hard to concentrate on, but it is fun though that we can see things in a different perspective. This gets a lot of people confused on what they can see but the best thing of that is no matter how many times you flip or turn the picture it will remain the same as it always has been you are just turning it.
