RCL Post #8: Current News

On Monday, Charles Youvella, a 17 year old football player at Hopi Senior High School in Arizona died in the hospital.  In a football game last Saturday night, he sustained a head injury during the game, but continued to play.  Near the end of the 4th quarter, long after his injury had taken place, Charles collapsed on the field.  He was rushed to the hospital, but tragically, they were not able to save him.

While the exact cause of Charles’s death is currently unknown, autopsies are being done to determine why he died so suddenly.  Most likely, his death is related to his injury earlier in his game on Saturday night.  The main question now is: if Charles was not allowed to continue playing in the game, would he have died?  If Charles’s injury would have been properly assessed, and he was forced to sit for the rest of the game, could his death have been prevented?
