The Penn State Brandywine (PSU-BW) Next-Gen Lab is collaborating with PSU Applied Research Lab (ARL) on projects to improve the predictive analytics capabilities across the US Army Logistics Enterprise utilizing SAP Predictive Analytics software dividing the overall effort into 3 project teams.
One project is focused on Army Strategic Logistics supporting the Army Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP) during course of action analysis to predict logistics impacts from analyzed alternatives. Army current data analytics goals focus on developing an enterprise level data analytics capability to analyze diverse, real time datasets then generate new insights and make informed decisions. The objective of this project effort is providing a framework to provide timely and accurate predictive, inferential, or causal analysis for strategic logistical resourcing decisions when Wargaming proposed courses of action.
The second project is focused on Army Operational Logistics specifically using SAP Predictive Analytics with near real-time data feeds instead as potential replacement for the current Army Logistics Estimate Worksheet (LEW) in Excel. The Army has goal to mature its approaches to data analytics and move from descriptive and diagnostic analytics toward enabling predictive and prescriptive analytics. The objective of this project effort is ensuring the Army matures and sustains a data analytics capability that enables the full business values of its information resources.
Enterprise-level performance measures are established to determine value of the emerging Army Logistics data analytics capability from this predictive analytics prototyping initiative targeted for integration with Army Logistics processes. SAP Predictive Analytics software is utilized to advance Army logistical data analytics capability to a maturity level where data is a driver of continuous improvement and innovation using available industry representative datasets to improve global supply chain and transportation logistics to optimize benefits from an integrated ERP environment.
The third project is focused on optimizing Army Tactical Logistics deliveries from staging areas to units. The objective of this project effort is utilizing SAP Predictive Analytics software to optimize route planning with continuous updates. Army vehicles have to transport logistics from staging areas directly to units determining the best route based on the current traffic, closures, weather conditions, and other changing route conditions including interference from external sources and adversarial threats on route alternatives potentially impacting logistics delivery.
