Particle-laden turbulence and biological propulsion

Grant from Keck Futures Initiative

Along with co-PI David Murphy (university of South Florida), we were awarded a grant from the National Academies Keck Futures Initiative (NAKFI) to study metachronal rowing across different size scales in ctenophores and mantis shrimp starting in Spring/Summer 2018.  We’ll specifically be looking at how patterns of propulsion might change across the low-to-high Reynolds number transition.  Even cooler: we will be working with artist-in-residence Celia Jacobs to document our discoveries through visual art projects!   See the press release here.
