Courtney Neal: Blog 1 – Once Upon a Time…

He was different. When I first laid eyes on him, I couldn’t help but stare. I kept thinking about how cute he was and how sexy he looked as the sweat dripped down his face during his basketball practice. His smile, his laugh, and his sense of humor were some reasons why I was falling for him. He infatuated my adolescent mind to the point where I found myself scribbling his name all over my notebooks. He was almost perfect… the only thing he needed was me.

He captured my heart, and I took a piece of his when I left.  We explored the world of  young love together. Then one day that world came crashing down. He betrayed my trust so our rendez-vous had to come to an end. He had my mind wrapped up in a love story. When the plot began to thicken, I realized that he wasn’t the one for me and the story must come to an end. He came into my life and gave me my first lesson in love:

Believe in Fairytales.

Once Upon A Time, there was a beautiful princess trapped in a tower as high as the moon. For lightyears she dreamed of freedom and a chance to experience true love. One day, a handsome man came to whisk her away on his white stallion (that could fly, of course). Defeating all of her demons then riding away into the deep universe. Hopefully, they will live happily ever after. Or maybe they’ll go to college and meet other people… but that’s in the sequel.

I’m a hopeless romantic with a heart that’s guarded by dragons caused by a past heartbreak.  Brave knights have tried slay the beast and rescue me but none have succeeded. I believe in a fairytale romance, like being swept off my feet by my knight in shinning armor. I think I will know him when I see him. Or maybe I’ve already met him and our storybook is just beginning.

Believing in fairytales helps me think optimistically about becoming the woman I want to be– strong, free, and successful.  My cultured imagination allows me to live vicariously through my  dreams. I believe it is possible to think my aspirations into existence.

I believe that if I wish on every star my goals of moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment television will become a reality. I believe that the coins I throw in a fountain will bring one more laughs with my friends. I believe that the last petal to fall off a daisy will reveal if Prince Charming loves me or loves me not.

I’m chasing my happily ever after. Life is a fairytale… This I Believe.
