The most important thing I have learned in this class from the lectures is don’t plagiarize and fabricate stories. The most important thing in journalism is your integrity and if people feel like you can’t be trusted then your name will be tarnished. Another thing I learned that is important is decision making because as a journalist every decision you make could affect your whole career. For example if you are a journalist or photographer that publishes something that is controversial or graphic and people do not like it, you could lose respect. One case study that impressed me was the one on media hype. The case study talked about Ray Rice and his altercation with his wife and how fast it went viral because of the internet and social media. It also mentioned how if we didn’t have the technology we had today Ray Rice would still have a job and it wouldn’t have been as serious as it was. It impressed me because it is so true and it happens a lot. Now a days we have so many different kinds of social medias and things that news can get put on. Because the stuff is everywhere thing tend to get blown up when before things were very different the course really helped me if I really want to continue with journalism in my future. It helped me understand what is right and what is wrong. The ethics of journalism and how important that is. Not only did this class help me with my future career it helped me in life. It showed me to always be honest and that your character is more important than anything. Money and fame is great but if you had to lie and cheat to make it than it takes away from all the things you have done. This has been one of my favorite classes since I have been in college because it taught me things that I can use in everyday life. I also liked reading about different case studies and reading about what other people have been through. This is definitely a class that I would recommend to other students because it would help you with your career if it is journalism, but it will also help in life like I said before.
