Blog 3 ( Ethical Lessons From The Foster-Foreman Lectures) By Daniel Crawford

Two situations which were heavily disused in the discussion with Wesley Lowery was on the topics of Cop shootings around the world. Mr Lowery is a journalist which focuses most of his work on the events of unarmed African-Americans who are gunned down by police officers. Next in his discussion was how he mentally handled these events since he is an African-American man who is also a journalist and knows that most of these shooting were against his own kind and he could be in danger while reporting.

Some analysis of these issues are, in an article by Nirey Skhon they go over the issues of the blue on black violence in the world and describes the case of Michael brown. He was an African american man who was unarmed and gunned down by a cop in Ferguson Missouri. In the article he talks about other cases which involved cops and shootings a the average number which occurred over the years. Another

Another article takes a different approach on the problems with African-Americans. It explains how still to this day black males lag behind the white males and how this is  major epidemic which needs to be solved and brought up to get people’s attention. In the article it described the creation of Walker’s Office which was a step made to help African-Americans become more academically educated. So why is it that still to this day there are unequal privileges between the two. This article describes reasoning and how change needs to be made to help the people in the world.

With ethics of journalism Wesley Lowery described his work as “the truth is how he like to report then comes the accuracy of how his work is published. He always keeps his personal thoughts and feelings out of the story and the situation he is covering. So the ethics of fairness is major when reporting so the story is not seen as being biased.

A lesson that I learned from this discussion was that even though the topic Mr. Lowery was covering is a very touchy subject for many African-Americans such as himself being an African-American man, he keeps his composure and his personal thoughts to himself during his process of reporting and writing his stories. This issue is important to discuss because the numbers for these shootings and other epidemics between the two races are still gradually growing and we are supposed to be united as one and only help one another and not be against each other. If action is not taken then it will continue to grow and create more issues and changes are needed.
