I believe unbiased, no matter what.
With other four girls in our class in middle school, we as a group was full of bias toward people in that three years. Although I was the monitor of our class, I didn’t take the responsibility to do what I should do. Instead, it was my false in somehow that the class was naughty and the grade of the class became lower and lower. At that time, what we like to do was flout others who didn’t get along with us or who we didn’t like. Also, we usually quarreled since some little things happened. I believe there is a resonance here. Many people may act like this when they were teens. It was the time we found the difference, it was the time we thought ourselves bigger, it was the time we weren’t kind-hearted. It’s just like some people become narcissistic, some people become discriminatory at that time. Maybe it’s human natural and we can’t escape at that period. It was the time we teens didn’t know the world better, didn’t know others deeper.
In high school, I was changing without knowing the reason. One of my friends in middle school brawled to me, saying that there was no ideas and thoughts in my own and I just listened to others. I didn’t believe that it was necessary to take notice of everything since there weren’t many things can made me angry or disappointed. I managed to be more understandable and found out that something wasn’t clear if you just look at the surface. I began to make friends from different classes and different clubs. My best friend in high school is the one I was fed up with when I was in middle school. After knowing her deeper, I found we had many same hobbies and we often played together happily. Also, I found we could learn things from everyone which means everyone has his or her own advantages and shinning points. Things were changing.
Thanks for my major, journalism, I understand more about bias. I always try to be a better self: I try to be kind toward unfamiliar people, I try to learn more about what I don’t know, I try to write without my point of view, I try to see everyone on equal level. According to one of my teacher, we can’t eschew bias because it’s one of the human nature, but we should avoid it when we write and talk as journalists, while we are reporting and writing. One of my favorite reporter in China, Chai Jing, reported many people that we couldn’t learn them in normal life. She not only reported them but also found the reasons behind them. From my point of view, making people more understandable about each other is very important to avoid bias. As people in the world, we can’t learn everything by ourselves. Do you have bias about something you don’t really know? Probably yes. As a journalist, I really think the media take an important role and responsibility. When I saw some reports like Chinese are good at math or Chinese are rich, when I saw women were didn’t smart as men, when I saw black and white people attacked each other, when I saw people in exact religions were banned, I was disappointed. Journalism can not only tell the truth but manipulate people’s thoughts deeply. The media somehow try to protect own country. However, I believe we should only tell the truth to reduce the bias and I believe journalism is divine. Actually, I have some different view with my friends when I don’t agree that they put one person’s shortcoming and despite the whole group of people especially country. I began to read many books about different cultures and travel a lot to expand my horizon. Thanks to the Internet, we can learn more about different people. However, some people comment people with bias in many social media like Weibo, Facebook and Twitter which make people who were attacked by language troublesome. There were people even suicided because of this. I really believe, people should be more kind, I didn’t say people can unbiased at all, but I think people should be more likely to learn more about others before have a bias. If we do so, the world maybe more peaceful. I really believe that.
