Loyalty.
I have been on this planet for 19 years. I have had quite a life’s experience so far. I pushed through hard lessons, gained knowledge and wisdom, and have learned over time that I value specific things. One of the things I hold dear is the idea of loyalty. I believe that loyalty is one of the most important values someone can learn in their life and I have been fortunate enough to learn this lesson so early on in my life.
When I was in my second year of middle school, I met my best friend. At the time I didn’t really think much of it because we were so young, but as time went on, we grew closer and closer, pretty much doing everything together from then on. When we finally moved on from middle school to high school, classes got tougher, sports became more prevalent and things started to get a little unclear. I didn’t know what was going to happen to us. I noticed one day after our social studies class together that my friend was really upset. I walked over to her and asked what was wrong. She proceeded to tell me how her parents were not getting along very well and decided to split up. I knew this was a pretty common thing for kids our age to go through but it never hit someone so close to me so hard and out of the blue. Times were really tough for her because she had always been so close with her father, yet now he had pretty much disappeared from her life altogether.
I took this instance, among many others in my life, to stand by my best friend. Instead of letting us grow apart with age, I put in the effort. I knew she was going through something that no one should ever have to go through and so I decided I was always going to be there for her. When she needed a shoulder to cry on, I was there. When she needed somewhere to stay for the night, I was there. When she just wanted to talk about things, anything really, I was there. This is where I truly think I learned the meaning of being loyal. I was there through the thick and the thin for someone I truly cared about. I value this trait that I and so many other people have so much because it speaks to a person’s ethics and integrity. When things get tough, people either quit or they push through and stick with things. Through everything I was there. I was loyal. It was one of the experiences I will value and cherish forever. I believe in loyalty.
