A State College native children’s author just released her newest children’s book. While her previous two books were more humorous and light-hearted, this book is more mature feeling to it with topics such as political corruption, miscarriage, and the death of parents.
The obvious people to tell the story would be the author herself and perhaps the illustrator she used for the pictures. I would ask why she felt the need to take this book down a different path than her previous books and how the parents and kids are reacting to it.
What would really stand out and be different would be getting an interview with a kid and a parent who read the book to get their reactions. It would be interesting to see how the parent felt about such heavy subjects in a children’s book. It would also be interesting to see if the kid really understood what was going on in the book.
