Weekly Story Idea #5: 4th Annual Fall Punkin’ Chunkin’ Festival

After reading last years report from the 3rd Annual Festival I think this could be a very intriguing story.

For the focus of the story I would plan to follow one team around- from building their launcher, to practicing, to the event, to then after the event. I want to give the viewers a taste of the work, effort and fun that goes into pumpkin launching.

I’d plan to interview the family or friends close to the “head launcher” of the person we were doing to story on. I’d want to interview the “head launcher,” the main person in charge of the event, and then people who are there to watch.

For key details, I would plan to shoot footage of preparing the “launcher,” capturing them launching the pumpkin, and then the after get an interview of how the event went. I would want to get close ups on the mechanics of the launcher in action. To localize this story, I would try to pick a prominent person in the area; perhaps the winner of last year’s Punkin’ Chunkin’ launch.

The package will start with the “main launcher” prepping for the day’s activities. I’ll get an interview from him and find out exactly what his hope for the day is. I’d then get wide, medium and close up shots of the people who come to the festival. This would segway into my next interview from the guests. I would get clips of them watching the great Punkin’ Chunkin’. After this I would get footage of the actual launching of the pumpkins. No matter whose pumpkin launched the farthest, I would go back to the interviewee and get his opinion on how the event went. After all is said and done, I would get an interview with the person who put the event on to hear how he felt it went.

To give people something to think about after my package, I would list more Fall Events going on in the area so they can be sure to attend the next.
