Weekly Story Idea 5 – Diaz

1. The Focus of this week’s story is on the ‘Day of Caring’ services that occurred in the Centre Country area on Thursday where hundreds of people from corporations, companies, Penn State, and individually volunteered to help schools, libraries, and municipalities in need around the local area. The Day of Caring is in honor of the late Col. Gerald Russell who was a big supporter of the United Way.

2. The People that would best tell this story are those who set up the ‘Day of Caring’ and the volunteers. This can include students from Bellefonte Area High School, members of Penn State University athletics, residents of Centre County (i.e. Bellefonte), and State College Area High School. Also, the people and organizations benefitting from the volunteer work.

3. Key Details include: explaining the purpose of the event (to honor the late Col. Russell), the people that participated and what they participated in (painting, gardening, building, etc.)

4. Beginning: Introduction to the ‘Day of Caring’, its location and purpose.

Middle: Stories from volunteers and founders on the importance and the impact of the community. Also, key quotes from organizations and people receiving the volunteer work.

End: Explain how people from the community can volunteer and wrap up the story with final moments from the ‘Day of Caring’.
