Axel (focus): The Burrowes Street Youth Haven received a $200,000 grant recently, which prompts a discussion about the amount of homeless, or struggling youth in the State College area.
Riders (who): The best people to interview for this segment would be the a person who runs the house, a teen who lives in the house, and the Congressman (or someone from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) who approved the grant.
Spokes (details): Details could include a variety of things including the rate of homeless youth in America, the amount of homeless youth in Pennsylvania and State College, the services that the Youth Haven provides, how much it costs to run the Haven, how much money it gets from the state, etc.
Rim (structure):
- Beginning: The segment would start off with a 5 shot sequence of a few of the residents of the Haven playing basketball or cooking or doing something together. The reporters voice over would start talking about the subject (one of the kids in the first shot) is like every other kid his age, except he lives in the youth haven. Then there would be a short interview with him talking about why he loved the Youth Haven.
- Middle: Then the scene would be the reporters stand up. She would be standing in front of the Youth Haven house, informing viewers of the number of homeless or youth in crisis in American, Pennsylvania, and State College. Then she can introduce the person who runs the house, and hold an interview with her. The person being interviewed should talk about what it takes to run the house, how the house helps the children, and how the new grant will help in the future.
- End: The last scene would be the reporter interviewing the Congressman or someone from the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (the department that gave the grant). This will be able to tell viewers how the grant process works and why the Youth Haven was given that specific amount. The segment would close out with a final comment from the kid that lives in the house and then cut back to the reporter.
