Stress, it’s a feeling most students know all to well. A lot of students turn to unhealthy eating or drinking habits to deal with it. They are unaware on how to solve their problems in a healthy manner. This is where Penn State HealthWorks steps in. SHC sign

Located in the University Health Center, HealthWorks is a truly underutilized tool by students. HealthWorks is a student run organization with one adult advisor, Sarah Jones. They do everything from workshops to personal counseling, and these students who run this organization are anything but amateurs.

Potential members have to take a 3 credit Bio Behavioral Health Class that teaches health behavior theory, health promotion strategies, and health issues relevant to the college population. These issues include: alcohol and other drugs, nutrition, physical activity, sexual health, sleep, and stress. Once accepted they also have to fulfill a requirement of 45 hours per semester.

Sarah Jones said “The workshops are fun and engaging.”

They invent things like a scategory for nutrition during their workshops. Where students pick a category and are then supposed to match it with certain nutritious topics. They also do workshops on how to have a healthy spring break, they do outreach programs, and also pre and post HIV testing.

More information and how to contact them for a workshop is available on their website:
