I have to start off by saying this class is one of my favorite classes. Dr. Z is a great professor and he is really hands on. This class is perfect for anyone who wants to explore the side of communications that is broadcast. You get to work with the cameras and really test your creative side. I was a little nervous coming into this class because I did not know much about cameras, but I was taught that with no problem. As the class progressed I thought it would be easy, and I was completely wrong. Your grade will show and prove only by how much effort you put forward.
I am an aspiring journalist so this class really helped me to understand what I will be doing in this field and helped me to decide if this is really what I want to do for the rest of my life. While I didn’t enjoy renting out the cameras and having to set it up, it was important to learn that side of the job because it looks better to jobs that you are applying too if you can do everything. The first skill I learned is how to be self sufficient. Even though we work with partners it is important that you make sure you have everything together for your portfolio. Another important skill that I learned is how to be more confident when speaking to the camera. Many people walk by when were filming and it can be easily distracting and can make you nervous, however it is important to remain focused and remember what you are talking about. Lastly, and the most important thing I learned is that you must know how to use the equipment. If you don’t pay attention to what your doing, you won’t realize that until you go to the computer lab to edit what you have filmed. Then you are making things harder for your self. So in the end I learned to pay attention to what your doing, don’t get distracted, be confident in what your doing and make sure that you have enough shots of yourself for your portfolio.
I am very happy that I got to work with Dr. Z, he is an awesome professor and truly cares about his students.
