Mandy Bell Story Idea 5

Axle: There are a lot of news stories coming out about the music festival, Karoondinha, coming to Centre County in July. I would like to do a story on Jeff Brown, who was asked to announce the event. I think it would be interesting to profile Brown and show the viewer how he was asked about the event, what his roles will be during the event and what he has done to get this opportunity. This would be a different angle to talk about the upcoming first-time music festival and get inside information from someone who will be actively involved in announcing it.

The Riders: I would talk to Brown himself to learn more about his background and find out how he got offered this position. I would have Brown explain the event in detail and explain his role for that weekend. Hopefully, he would be able to elaborate more about the logistics of the weekend and explain who the artists are and what they will be doing during the weekend. I would try to talk to the person who hired him and ask why Brown was the person they asked. I would talk to Brown’s son, who is a college student, to see his opinions of his father doing what could be the biggest concert Centre County has ever had. Finally, I would talk to students in Brown’s classes and find out their reaction to the news and have them explain why they think Brown would be a good fit and if they will attend to see him.

The Spokes: Like previously stated, I would get sound from Brown, a staff member from Karoondinha, his son and at least one of his students. Brown is the PA announcer for the men’s basketball team, so I would get nat. sound of him announcing during the next game to be able to record his announcing voice. I would also get nat. sound of Brown teaching his classes to show everything he does in his everyday life. I would do a stand up where the Karoondinha event will be held to show where Brown will be working. If he already knows the layout of where the stage will be, I will be able to point out different areas to show where everything will be set up during that weekend.

The Rim:

Beginning: I would start the package with nat. sound of Brown’s voice announcing the men’s basketball game. I would then continue with a voice over explaining how Brown was selected to announce the first-ever Karoondinha concert even in Centre County in July. I would have B roll of Brown announcing the game and have a sequence shot of him speaking into the microphone. I would then transition into a voice over about Brown’s background in the field and probably have B roll of him teaching his classes when he explains he is a professor for the university. Then, I would have Brown explain how he found out he was offered this position with the music festival.

Middle: I would then show Brown hosting his radio show that he does at a local radio station in State College. I would have the staff member from Karoondinha explain why Brown was the best pick for the job. I would then transition into my standup at the area the concert will be held. I would explain more of the details of the concert and what Brown’s role will be during the weekend. I would then have his students talk about this opportunity for him and if that impacts their decision about going to the concert.

End: I would close with Brown’s personal life to show how much he balances with his professional life. He is part of a men’s singing quartet that I would shoot and also show his interaction with his kids and grandchildren when he has the time. I would explain how he says his personal life balances with the professional and how his family reacts to his busy schedule.
