There Are Fewer Women Coaches In College Basketball Now Than There Were A Decade Ago

Kristine Cugliotta is a student in the State College area who didn’t let a male dominated sport stop her from pursuing her passion.  She is the first woman in Penn State history to manage the men’s basketball team.  However, it wasn’t an easy path for Kristine.  After contacting the director of operations of the basketball team, she said she would do whatever it takes to her spot.  From there, she began a month-long tryout process.

Kristine admits being the first and only female basketball manager forced her to properly adjust to her male counterparts.  Aside from her strict working schedule, Kristine is an economics major and is involved in other extracurricular activities.

Even though finding a balance is hard, basketball will always play an important role in her life. She hopes   Kristine’s advice to females conquering adversity in their field is to never feel as if being different is a bad thing.
