The Axle: I want viewers to realize the implications of big party weekends at colleges and understand the dangers that can occur as many unfamiliar people flood in, such as the IUP shootings this weekend.

Riders: For this segment, I would interview police officers as well as witnesses who were at the college when this occurred. I will also ask local residents in the Indiana area about their thoughts and reactions to having two shootings occur near their own homes. It will be important to examine how things like this can happen and what can be done to prevent future problems. It would also be beneficial to have a statement from an official at the college about what happened and what they intend to do to prevent future incidents.

Spokes: I would include interviews with witnesses and residents, as well as sound bites from local police officers. I would shoot a standup on the Indiana campus, particularly on the main strip where the incidents occurred. It is important to include that Indiana is very close to State College and something similar has the potential to happen here, as Penn State celebrates State Paddy’s Day which attracts a lot of outside traffic into Centre County.

The Rim:

Beginning: I would begin my segment by introducing what took place this weekend at IUP during “IUPaddy’s” and explain the situations, who was involved, and who was injured. From here, it would be important to get a statement from a police officer on the matter at hand.

Middle: I would then explain the similarities between IUPaddy’s and State College’s “State Paddy’s” celebrations and the impacts these events can have on local residents. I would insert interviews with witnesses as well as local residents on their thoughts and reactions to this incident.

End: I would end with an interview from a college official about what they intend to do to prevent future incidents from occurring. I would explain to local residents how they can report any suspicious behavior and what State College residents could be on the look out for when “Blue and White” weekend or “Moving On” happens within the next month, as these types of events generate outside traffic.
