Weekly Story Idea #7 – Andrew Henry

Axle: This story will serve as both a review of ESPN’s College Gameday at Penn State and a preview of next week’s Gameday which will occur in Columbus, Ohio. The objective is to get a reaction from people who attended ESPN’s pregame event and try to find people who will make the trek to Ohio State for next weekend’s clash, as it is fairly unprecedented for Gameday to be covering the same team 2 weeks in a row.

Riders: Most of the story would be trying to locate fans who had both attended last weeks event in State College, and who also are planning on making a trip to go to the same event at Ohio State when they preview the Penn State vs Ohio State game, regardless of whether or not they attended last week’s game against Michigan or are planning on actually going into the game this Saturday against Ohio State.

Spokes: In addition to NAT sound of Gameday last week (crowd chants, Lee Corso pick selection to name a few) I’d try to ask fans what the experience of having Gameday here was like and what it means to the University seeing as ESPN hadn’t brought the pregame show here since 2009. Also asking why they plan on traveling to Ohio State and what they hope will be the same, or what would be different about the atmospheres of the two different campuses.

Rim:

Beginning: Start with a a review of what occurred last Saturday, referencing both the College Gameday experience, and the game itself that saw Penn State defeat Michigan 42-13 at its annual whiteout game.

Middle: Sound from intterviewees about the experience and why they felt it so important.

End: Standup on Old Main lawn where Gameday took place and mention how the same ESPN crew will be at Ohio State covering Penn State vs Ohio State from 9 AM to Noon this Saturday and that the football game could be seen on FOX at 3:30 the same day.
