Blog #5 – Andrew Henry

Before entering Comm 465, I was totally unaware of the amount of work that went into creating news stories for television. The workload in coming up with an idea, tracking down sources, getting good shots, and then editing it all definitely took me by surprise.

The first day that we learned to use the camera’s I was completely lost and felt pretty hopeless that I’d ever be able to figure out how to operate it. Even today I’ve still got a long way to go, but I found that after using it more and more, you begin to get a much better feel for it, and I’m hoping eventually I have 100% confidence in my ability to operate it.

I also certainly need a lot more work in my editing abilities on Premier. I am far from a computer wizard today,  but I surprised myself a little with how far I’ve come in being able to function on the computer and trying to piece together a news stories with the video and audio I’ve compiled.

All in all, this class was certainly a learning experience more than anything that surely needed, and I’m hoping that the lessons I’ve learned in 465 will stick with me and I can build upon them when I further advance in my life.
