Blog #6 – Andrew Henry

Project 4 was easily the most difficult one to do because this was the first time that we all had to go solo, and figure things out for ourselves. Working in groups was great because if there was a certain aspect of either filming or editing that you were unsure of how to do, you had two teammates there to help you out, and odds are at least one of them knew what to do. For this project, if you were unsure how to do something, you just had to bear down and figure it out. For that reason, I think doing this project solo was an important learning experience and at least for me, made me realize that sometimes you need to push yourself.

I did my story on Matt Lintal, the head coach of the State College High School football team. I really was excited to meet him because I myself was a High School football player and I just genuinely love talking football with people. Aside from that, State High had a great season this year, making it all the way to the state quarterfinals, so I really wanted to pick his brain about what he can do as a coach to engineer a team that performs so well on the field.

I was also fascinated when he told me that he actually played for State High himself, and went on to play safety at a Division III school. When in high school, he actually was a teammate of Larry Johnson, who would go on to play running back at Penn State, became a Heisman finalist and was a 2 time pro bowler in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs. I was really curious to know what it was like playing alongside a player of that caliber.

Editing was really difficult, as I realized that my audio wasn’t fantastic and the colors on some of my shots were off,  but I worked with what I had and hopefully put together a fairly decent project. I did like how my standup turned out however, despite me having to do it on my own, that might be one of the bright spots for me on this project.
