Blog #6 Reflection on Class – Ryan Cornelius

Going into the class I thought it was going to be more of a news studio operations type class, like the one time we were in the CCR studio. The day in the TV studio was by far the most fun class we had all semester. I thought everyone in the class got along well and we had a good chemistry so it made pretty enjoyable.

I felt pretty helpless when first being introduced to the camera. It was just very overwhelming to have very little experience with the camera and then having to go out and shoot a project.  I felt at times this was more of a camera man class rather than being a TV Reporting class.

I liked the group that I was in for the first two projects with Bryan and Andrew. We worked together very well and knew what to expect from one another. We just had great chemistry. I was upset when our group was split up, nothing against the new group but a good comparison would be an undefeated team that is very good just trades away vital parts to the team. Not that the new team couldn’t have been great we just didn’t have enough time to learn each others tendencies.

I was definitely not too thrilled about having to do project 4 solo because news stations have news crews. If they aren’t working solo why should we? With that being said it was beneficial for me to do the project solo because it allowed me to have the confidence to craft a story on my own. This class taught me things I had no idea how to do including operate an expensive tv quality camera, craft a story, and edit on Adobe Premier. There was a lot of work in 465, perhaps the most work I’ve ever had in a class, but I have never learned this much valuable information in a class ever. I definitely had a positive experience in this class and I’m glad I took it.

My favorite picture from this semester featuring my teammates Andrew Henry (left) and Bryan Montesano (right) getting the perfect shot for Project 2.
