Consuming information is what society spends most of their time doing. Social media is a popular way to spend time, but is also becoming a more popular to receive news. News outlets are turning to social media, and their accounts can rapidly post updates on breaking news; the paper version would have to be printed the next day. One of the many challenges being faced by news outlets in the present day is convenience. If we want to view social media platforms to receive our news, we must open each app on our phone, or go to another website to view news on each platform. Another challenge that is faced by distributing news online is how users are sometimes linked to another website. Not all sources that users are linked to are reliable, and this can contribute to fake news. Hootsuite offers a solution to all these problems. All social media platforms can be monitored at once. Hootsuite also offers a library to link you to multiple other platforms such as YouTube and Google Plus.
Hootsuite is different from all other platforms because it is so convenient. Users can link basically all of their social media accounts to Hootsuite, and would never have to leave to get all of their information. “Hootsuite connects with prominent networks like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, as well as Instagram, Foursquare, WordPress.com, and lesser known sites, such as Mixi.” (Chaney, 2014). This eliminates the need for switching to other platforms to retrieve news. There is a dashboard on the top that allows users to switch platforms. Hootsuite users also gain access to other sources of news and can be linked to reliable sources such as Google Plus. This means users are getting news from reliable sources, and any doubt of fake news is removed. It is easy to delegate which platforms you prefer, and you can choose which ones appear first along your dashboard.
One change that can be made to Hootsuite is the price. Hootsuite charges a yearly rate, but also offers a fee for $29 a month. This might deter some individuals for using it, because other social media platforms are free to use.
Hootsuite is a beneficial website, but it does not cater to everyone. Not everyone can afford to spend $29 a month simply to view social media because it is “convenient.” It is beneficial however. Users have everything in one place, and they are able to know it is reliable and they were receiving the best news.
