- There is an app that I want to share with you is my “secret app”. In my view, it is profound, intellectual, and game changing. It is called “Quora”. Ever since the day humans existed in this world, knowledge and experiences have been the elevator for humanity to consistently develop. Thanks to the invention of telecom and internet, we have significantly eliminated the inability to communicate from far distances. And Quora is doing this job very well! Quora created a platform for ones who got the questions and ones got the answers to meet each other. Well, you might want to ask? What kinds of questions will be brought up on Quora? The answer is “Life, yeah just life experiences, it is the School of life!” For instance, you can get on quora and ask questions that are layback and easy like “What is the best shirt color that matches with blue jeans? ”. Sometimes surprisingly, a well-experienced fashion designer could show up your commentary section and solve your question from a professional perspective. Or you can ask the deep and meaningful question like “what does it feel like to be old and alone?” and a veteran user may answer that for you. This is what I meant by saying Quora is “The school of life”, because we can’t ever get answers for those kinds of questions in a traditional school!
- Some people comment on Quora: “it is a more organized Yahoo Answers, a classier Reddit, an opinionated Wikipedia” (Kokalitcheva, 2014) This comment greatly explained how Quora’s marketing position in comparison to other knowledge-based sites. Quora heavily focuses on original intellectual content in a Q&A format to win user’s favorability . During the early growth of Quora, there were no ads at all on this platform. Because the managing team knew the importance of an enjoyable user experience is the key to being outstanding. They tried not to put any irrelevant or lowbrow ads on Quora even today where Quora has an enormous amount of 300 millions monthly active users. To achieve this amount of registered users, Quora made a smart in-app change, which is making full premium answers only available to the registered users, if you were a guest user who was filled with curiosity, you will have to sign it up to see what’s behind the wondering titles.
- My final thoughts about Quora: As a well-elaborated learning app, Quora definitely has the potential to embrace more exposure to the mainstream audiences. Especially for those adults who are out of school, but still passionate about learning more aspects towards life. Quora itself definitely worth to be advertised, the managing team should put in more marketing effort!
