Next Door
The Nextdoor app is a social networking platform for local communities and neighborhoods. Instead of connecting you to any user across the world, Nextdoor narrows your network to those in your surrounding area. Nextdoor was co-founded by Sarah Leary, Nirav Tolia, Prakash Janakiraman and David Wiesen in 2008. Tolia had previously helped start Epinions. Early investors included Benchmark Capital, Shasta Ventures, and Rich Barton. It was launched in October of 2011. As of February 2014 Nextdoor had 80 to 100 employees.
Its network is made up of more than 180,000 neighborhoods across the globe. According to their website, their mission is to “provide a trusted platform where neighbors work together to build stronger, safer, happier communities, all over the world.” With the Nextdoor app, users can interact with their neighbors, discuss community news, and recommend local services and businesses that they like. But that’s not all the app can do. The Nextdoor app is mainly used for three things. Sell and buy things. Users can use Nextdoor in order to sell or purchase items in the “For Sale or Free” page of the app. The app also has a feature that users can use to look at real estate listings as well. Another is organizing events. Having a birthday party and inviting some of the neighbor kids over is a great way. Maybe you want to get a book club going? Users can use the Nextdoor app to host and organize parties and events. Lastly you can get recommendations. With the app, users can look up reviews of local businesses like restaurants to see if they’re worth patronizing. It’s this exact feature that makes it such a boom for entrepreneurs. At its heart, though, the Nextdoor network is a way for neighbors to engage each other and build a sense of community.
After going Next door, I think it’s a well thought of app, The role of it to make the community safer is a good mission to have. I do like the app but it’s really another facebook but at the same time privacy is completely gone. I would never use this app because it tells users who are connected with you only in that neighborhood where you live and your real name. I am a privacy person and I do not like my address as well as my full name out there. I think a lot of people feel like that but I recommend this app for moms, dads, or Guardians of any kind to use this app. It will be a great way for someone who is truly interested in learning the community.
